MMP Update: New Surveys & Reports
We're excited to announce the release of five new analytical reports and important calculation updates to the existing reports. We have also introduced two optional surveys: Public Space Program Assessment and Processing Facilities Assessment. Keep reading to learn more about the latest updates to the Municipal Measurement Program™ (MMP™).
NEW SURVEYS
Public Space Program Assessment
Complete this survey to provide information about where public space bins are located, the types of containers used, and tonnage information for recycling and MSW collected from public spaces.
Key Questions About Public Space Programs
The following questions are used to measure public space program performance in the MMP's analytical reports.
- Does your municipality provide trash bins in public spaces?
- Can you provide tonnage information for municipal solid waste (MSW) collected from public spaces in 2019?
- Does your municipality provide recycling bins in public spaces?
- Can you provide tonnage information for recyclables collected from public spaces in 2019?
Processing Facilities Assessment
Complete this survey to provide information about how your municipality works with facilities to manage materials and identify what percentage of materials are diverted versus disposed. By completing this survey, municipalities will unlock the Environmental Benefits Report.
Key Questions About Processing Facilities
The following questions are used to measure material management performance in the MMP's analytical reports.
- What types of facilities does your municipality use to process materials? (select all that apply)
- Can you provide information about how your municipality’s municipal solid waste (MSW) was disposed in 2019?
- Can you provide information about how your municipality’s residential recyclables were managed in 2019?
- Can you provide information about how your municipality’s organics were processed in 2019?
ANALYTICAL REPORTS
Existing Reports
The following reports will be updated to include new tonnage information collected in the Residential Drop-Off Program Assessment and the Public Spaces Program Assessment surveys.
- Economic Benefits of Recycling Report
- Annual Tonnage by Residential Programs Report
- Annual Diversion Rate Report
- Lbs/Household Report
- Lbs/Household Compared to U.S. National Average Report
Please note: the Annual Diversion Rate report will be replacing Annual Curbside Diversion Rate and Annual Drop-off Diversion Rate reports. It will allow municipalities to measure its diversion rate for each municipal program or as an aggregate for all programs.
New Reports
The following new reports will soon be available to all participating municipalities.
Benchmarking Report
Municipalities will be able to compare their key performance metrics against other MMP participants including:
- Combined Curbside & Drop-off Diversion Rate (%)
- Curbside Diversion Rate (%)
- Drop-off Diversion Rate (%)
- Lbs/Household, by Program
- Curbside Contamination Rate (%)
Annual Trend Report
Now that the MMP is entering its second year, municipalities will want to see how their program performance has changed over time.
The report will show the annual trend for the following metrics:
- All Programs Diversion Rate (%)
- Curbside Diversion Rate (%)
- Drop-off Diversion Rate (%)
- Tonnage Analysis
- Lbs/Household
- Curbside Contamination Rate (%)
Environmental Benefits Report
Based on the EPA’s WARM model, the Environmental Benefits report uses the tonnage data entered into the program assessment surveys to calculate your municipality’s reduction of MTCO2E or “metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent”. From there, the report converts the reductions of MTCO2E into everyday terms such as “barrels of oil conserved”, “wind turbines installed”, and “tree seedlings grown”.
Performance Summary Report
A great way to see the big picture! This report will provide an at-a-glance view of the municipality's key performance metrics, including:
- All Programs Diversion Rate (%)
- Curbside Diversion Rate (%)
- Drop-off Diversion Rate (%)
- Public Space Diversion Rate (%)
- Total Recycling Tons
- Total Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) Tons
- Total Source Separated Organics Tons
- Lbs/Household Recycling
- Lbs/Household Municipal Solid Waste
- Lbs/Households Source Separated Organics
- Curbside Contamination Rate (%)
Per Capita Report
Municipalities will be able to generate this report to measure the total pounds of municipal solid waste (MSW) per resident, pounds of recycling per resident, and pounds of organics per resident collected from curbside, drop-off, and public space programs.
